The Cruise Line Have Their Own Island

Holland America's Eastern Caribbean cruises feature a stop on their own island, Half Moon Cay. Their trips feature swimming with the stingrays in the Bahamas, shopping on St. Thomas and visiting the French Riviera on St. Maarten. They offer nine cruise itineraries. Half Moon Cay was named the best private island for four years in a row by Porthole Magazine and guests can snorkel and scuba dive, enjoy bird watching or hiking, tour the island on a personal watercraft or ride horses bareback on the beach. Their new aqua park features a pirate ship, water slide, water cannon and sea creatures.

If it's the Western Caribbean you're interested in, Disney Cruise Line, for example, has a seven-day cruise that leaves Port Canaveral, Florida at 4 p.m. with a stop in Key West from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. the next day. The following day is spent at sea, with the next stop at Grand Cayman from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., when you leave for Cozumel, arriving at 9 the next morning. After spending the day in Cozumel you depart for another day at sea, before landing at Castaway Cay, where you spend the full day, before leaving for Port Canaveral.

Prices for two adults on this trip range from $2,615 for a standard inside stateroom to $4,887 for a deluxe family stateroom with verandah. (A cheap western Caribbean cruise is available if you search the Internet or ask your travel agent for a western Caribbean cruise special.)

Another example of a Western Caribbean cruise is Princess Cruises seven-night cruise on the Star Princess from $699. It features round trips from Fort Lauderdale, with ports of call including Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Princess Cays. Inside cabins are from $699 per person; ocean view cabins are from $798 per person; balcony cabins are from $897 per person and mini-suites are from $1,096 per person. These prices include the cruise only, including port charges. Getting to and from Fort Lauderdale is extra.

Pick up the brochures from your travel agent or order them on the Internet before making your choice. The Caribbean is a wonderful destination year-round and it's hard not to have a wonderful Caribbean vacation. So, if you've made up your mind that a Bahamas cruise or a Puerto Rico cruise is for you or you want to check out Grand Cayman cruise excursions or read a western Caribbean cruise review, talk to your travel agent or surf the net.
